The classic plain gele became boring once the multicoloured gele came to live but honestly the multicoloured ones are very eye catching. They are vibrant, they are fun, they are perfect for all occasions and they are a nice pop of colour to any look.
Green, out first colour in the countdown, just like red is quite a festive colour. Green can be worn by all and in all shades or form. Green eye shadow, green gele, green aso ebi will make any one green with envy. Let's have a look.
George just like the coral beads used to worn by the easterners (Igbo, Edo, Delta etc) and it used to be solely to make wrapper. In this time and age the Goerge fabric is been used by Iya Ekos for all kinds of styles from dresses to the classic wrapper and more.
Brown is a sweet colour and can be worn by almost everyone. For someone like me who love subtle and classic feel to my look, I love to wear brown. I also prefer the brown smokey eye to the black one. Brown can be combined with most colours. Let's have a look at some brown fashion on Iya Eko.
Silk is very luxurious. Silk feels like butter and it is very romantic. It can be used for almost everything. Think about those gorgeous and sexy lingerie, silk is perfect for them. Silk is also perfect for mixing fabrics like Ankara, lace and many more. They are also perfect for the knot wrapper. You can find silk in plain and also multicoloured. Let me simply put it as silk is chic.
Red is such an elegant colour. There's something so festive about it. You can associate red with a lot of emotions like passion, sexuality, anger, love and Joy. In the Asian culture, red is the colour of happiness. Whether worn on the lips or worn as clothes, red is chic, no wonder Holly wood super stars find solace in red lips. Let us look at some reds on Iya EKo
Since Orange became the new black, Orange has become one of the most popular colours among style lovers. The good thing also about orange is that it can be worn in all seasons. Orange range from very light to very deep shade. Orange is fun to wear as clothes, accessories and as gele. Both men and women look good in Orange.
13. Men Fashion
The men fashion here on Iya Eko is hot. The Iya Eko men are all tall, dark and handsome. Every woman wants to go home with them. Seriously, the men fashion here is spot on. From agbada look book to Ankara suit to wedding & engagement party, the Iya EKo men sure know how to dress to kill.
12. Delta Bride
The Delta brides are not too different from the Edo bride. They wear their beads, judge or Damask around thier burst, they wear their head crown made from coral beads and to complete their look, they hold unto the horse whip.
11. Cord Lace
In recent times, the cord lace has become really popular. I love them because they are so luxurious looking even the very cheap ones. They come in a variety of colours and they are available in different price range.
So I had of the saying "eni mankara loma je semo", pardon my French, I thought ; what the heck ? It is almost mandatory for party lovers to wear the aso ebi ankara to parties or they won't enjoy the priviledge of eating Semovita. Take it or leave it, Ankara will always be around and right now, it is reaching new heights and taking the fashion scene by surprise. Your favourite celebrities wear Ankara, every day people wear the Ankara print too. They are affordable and are available in all price points. You can also buy them on some retail sites now. Asos has a special space for some chic Ankara styles and designs. Don't go too far from home, Sikira in Isa le oja can make you a nice design, if you are too posh for some Sikira style, go Tiffany Amber.
Peplum is one of the most popular style piece in recent years. Not only is it popular, it is very flattering and all figures, shapes and size. Every woman I think look good in peplum and every woman at one point or the other love peplum except for women who shy away from showing off thier curves. Peplum made Aso Ebi is as gorgeous as the ones made in the western styles. You can also dress the peplum up or down. Let's see what I mean on women of different shapes and sizes.
The Iro and blouse is not new to style lovers. It has been around for some time too. The only difference between Iro and Buba and Iro and blouse is that Iro and blouse is more modern and for the modern woman. The woman that is glamorous, polished and sophisticated. You can make Iro and blouse and Iro and buba from practically all kinds of fabric from Ankara, to Lace to Velvet to Jacquard. They can also be worn to all occassions be it the traditional wedding, naming ceremony or going to church on Sunday
Introduction is a time when the family of the bride and the groom to be get together to formally meet each other. There is the exchange of gifts, the family eat togtehr and merry and on this day, in most cases, the wedding date is fixed. Even though the Introduction is not the real wedding, the celebration that surrounds it is getting bigger and better. A lot of couple now move on to leave together because they believe after the introduction, they are legal.
6. Aso Ebi
I love it when I hear an Igbo woman say the word Aso ebi. Even though Aso ebi is a youruba term, a lot of people use the word. In my head, I feel like it is now a universal word. Nigerians and Africans from all around the world use the A word; Aso ebi. I am particularly excited because there is no better place to find the lastest Aso ebi than on Iya Eko with 500,000 images. Iya Eko is and will always be your one stop shop for all types of Aso Ebi Inspirations. Get Inspired.
5. Coral Beads
The coral beads are significant to royalty. They are an epitome of style. They can be worn on all occasions but most importantly to special occasions like weddings, naming ceremonies, funeral, chieftancy titles and so on. They are more common among the Edo, Delta and Igbo people but now the Yoruba wear them on special occassions too. There are imitation coral beads and there are the real coral beads. The real coral beads are obviously more expensive.
4. Bridal Hair
The brides hair is about the most important thing on the wedding day aside make up, the wedding dress and the shoe & purse. Even though most brides wear some kind of veil or gele on the wedding day, the hair still has to be on point. I have a whole article dedicated to bridal hair here on Iya Eko, why not check it out.
Agbada traditionally is worn by men but we Iya Ekos love to do what the men do. We have jumped on the Agbada wagon and the trend is waxing stronger by the day.
Skirts come in different cuts and designs. For a typical Iya Eko, skirt could range from mini to midi and to maxi. They could also be fitted skirts, full skirts or pencil skirts.
1. Iro and Buba
Undisputed Number One! The ever safe Iro and Buba. The Iro and Buba whether made in a more modern way or the types my mother wore in her own time, they will always be around.
